mass transit, give it a chance!

I was just reading an article about the horrific traffic problems in Southern California. Currently they are considering building a long tunnel to connect two areas, which seems silly to build a tunnel in an earthquake zone. The best quote was given by Karl Warkomski, mayor of Aliso Viejo, in southern Orange County. "Every study shows that you can't build your way out of congestion." This is when I say two cheers for the NYC subway, and come on California, get out of your cars and build some decent mass transit!

At first I thought the dog was fake, and then it moved. The lady that was carrying it seemed to be a bit nervous. I was afraid that the dog would just jump out of the bag and get hit by the train, but he was well behaved.

I'm not really sure what is going on as of yet but for the past two days I've been trying to send pictures to the blog from my phone and they aren't getting through. So, as we say in the "biz":

These two were fast asleep at 10:45pm last night as I was coming home from work. Not sure what they had in the bags but it intrigued me.

NYC Marathon

This morning was a great day for the annual New York City Marathon. It was an event not to be missed. The amount of support and cheering was awesome. The sound of tens of thousands of runners feet hitting the pavement was a beautiful sound. All of these photos were taken 3 blocks from my place, which is about 10 miles into the race. With some 35,000 runners, 2 million spectators, 5 boroughs and 26.2 miles of craziness this made for a great reason to wake up on a Sunday morning.

The fact that so many people were drinking water made the street look as if it had rained. Lots of thirsty runners! Right next to the water station was the injury station. There were a few runners down and out.

This was definitely a sight to see! These women had a very elegant feel to their strides. They appeared to all be like cheetahs in hot pursuit of a meal...the finish line!

These guys were really going fast! They had a much different feeling from the women's group, more of a every man for himself theme.

Greenwich Halloween Parade

This was my first Halloween parade in NYC. It was awesome! Hard to see and even harder to get good photos at night with my fantastic camera phone, but it was a sight to see. Can't wait until next year!
