atlantic antic

This is a kinda late posting, but I was outta town for a few days. This was a street fair down Atlantic Ave. this last sunday. It was 1.3 miles of "bargains, food and music". Not sure if I really saw any bargains, but I did taste some good food.

virgin of guadalupe tribute

On September 25 of 1821, the Mexican state won its independence from the Spanish crown. Here are a group of people walking down Myrtle Ave. with the virgin of guadalupe. They were chanting things I couldn't understand.

flyin' high

Local homing pigeons taking an evening flight. They live in a cage on top of a local apartment building. Every evening they get let out for a while and then come back to roost. They are really pretty to watch as they go round and round.

organic cane juice

We tried a sample and it was tasty. The guy that gave the sample said it cleans out the system and helps you get pregnant!

I like the colors and the big clock on top. It reminds me of Europe.

Kinda creepy.

soon to be...

Luxury condos. These warehouses are in Williamsburg right on the east river. They had that industrial smell and were cooler than cool. It's too bad that the rich kids are gonna take them over and turn it into gentrified crap.

warehouse fun

I wanna go in but some guy just screamed 'dont even try it!'

come for a visit, stay for an eternity! Evergreen Cemetery

I decided to take a field trip to Evergreen Cemetery. I have always had a fascination with graveyards and the like and try to go check them out when I can. This cemetery is HUGE! Not like 20 blocks huge but like a small city huge. I think there are something like 500,000 people buried here! I only covered a very small part of the grounds mostly because I ran out of water and it was really hot and there are no stores in that place, go figure. I did drink some of the water that came out of a garden spigot but it tasted, well, like death. I'm definitely gonna go back again because of what I saw this time. Below are some of the highlights. It was very quiet there and a nice final resting place.

angel wings are fragile

Just in case you were considering having angel wings, children's legs or any other thin and fragile structure for your headstone, DON'T! Case in point above.

this old house, AKA: way to go Foale!

This was quite a large granite house that Mr. Foale had set up for him, and as far as I could tell he was the only one in it! It was skirted with really nice evergreen trees and had pots with live plants growing on the steps. Not those tacky plastic ones that you often see on other measly headstones!

inside this old house

So, when I looked inside the huge mansion that Foale had set up for him there was this beautiful stained glass window. It was quite impressive. After that I started looking in all the other little house of granite and notice that they too had nice stained glass windows. Not everyone had them, so I guess if you REALLY loved your deceased loved one you would fork out the extra money for the nice window! Some people can be so cheap.

stumps me

These were two headstones that for some odd reason resembled tree stumps. Not just any tree stumps, but ones whose limbs were cut off. Such an odd feature. On the front of them were the traditional writings about the beloved ones.

on the starboard side

This guy had one hell of a headstone! He was a captain and I suppose this was him with his trusted steering wheel. There was a big plaque below that explained that there was money left to the cemetery to keep his plot in tip top shape, but to me it looked like it could use a bit of polishing.

we all fall down

This one was kinda sad. It was a pedestal with a girl praying on top of it, but she broke off at the legs and now she sits below with no legs and she's still praying. Maybe for some legs?

a dog for a headstone?

This one was one of the more unusual ones that I saw. It had no markings or any explanation, but I like it none the less.

I wasn't alone

As I was walking through the first part of the cemetery something caught the corner of my eye. When I inspected further I saw two raccoons running around! The were so flipping cute and they were super curious about me. I walked closer to them and they were peaking out behind a tree. Once I got close enough they ran up the tree but still wanted to know what I was doing there. I guess that they don't usually get guests. I was a bit confused though because I thought raccoons sleep in the day. Maybe they had just got back from a night on the town.

round two

OK, so I didn't win the last time and neather did anyone else. The jackpot is up to $200 million!! Melissa, Riff and I all bought one ticket. We made a pact that if any of us won we'd give the other $1 million. The drawing is tomorrow night at 11pm EST. Check out NYlottery.org to see the results. Wish us lots of luck!

apartment hunting is fun

Melissa and riff are having a blast looking for a place while they are crashing at my pad. They just got into town from Seattle. Here they are "discusing" options. Its better to watch than TV!

are you ready?

This is a bit dated, but I like the way it aged and how it's in English and Spanish. This was right next to Myrtle pets around the corner from my house.

september 11th lights

Ground zero as seen from Fort Greene park in Brooklyn. This photo doesn't do them much justice but they were beautiful and made me think of all who were lost in the twin towers. Four years later and it still has quite an impact even though I wasn't here.

new phone, old photos

So I am getting a replacement phone because the one that I have is about to break. The shitty thing is that all of the photos that I have stored on the camera are going to go away because Verizon can transfer my phone numbers but NOT the photos. Sucks. So, I'm going to be dumping some of the better ones on the blog, even though they are older. This is a self portrait that I took when my phone decided to go 80's retro on me for one day. It was really weird. I just hit the damn thing hard once and it snapped back to normal. Never did it again, but I did like the effect. This was taken in Seattle.

late posting

My friend Nif came into town this last weekend. She was a really big help with my gallery show that I just had. Thanks baby! Photos of the gallery to come!
