This is the back patio at a fine brooklyn establishment. Fancy! This is one of Naomi's favorite bars. Oh yeah, she's got class baby. She says that "it's really not as bad as it looks".

brooklyn local
This is a tree that is only found in brooklyn. Its called Tree of Heaven. Although, if you break its leaves or rub the stems it doesn't smell anything like heaven. More like foul peanut butter. Yum!

finally, a whole store dedicated to them!
I'm not sure if they sale parrot fish(which is a real type of fresh water fish) or they sale parrots and fish. Either way, pigeons are a big deal out here. Apparently they race them. Take your best bird, ship it a long ways away along with all the other birds in the race. The one that makes it back first wins! The prizes can be as much as $100,000.00! That's right one hundred thousand dollars. I'm gonna get me a pigeon right away!
good on a hot day
It comes in a cup for your pleasure, or you can buy the whole darn thing! It kinda looks like they are going to all roll right into the street. I think it was the angel that I took the photo at.
um...
Funny thing about this is that there isn't a wal-mart in Brooklyn. The closest one is in New Jersey! Besides that there seems to be a 99 cents store every 5 blocks. Weird advertising.

international stone accessories
Quite fancy for a 'stone' store wouldn't you say? I like how they allow all the graffiti on the walls. Very Brooklyn. Why clean it up, they'll just add more!

night time fun
This makes six, and a total of four for today!
(but I must add this was a LEGAL one, fire dept. approved!)
popular day for water wasting!
While I was snapping this photo the neighbor kids asked if I wanted to "get in". I said no, seeing as I had my phone and back pack on. They proceeded to scream "HE WANTS TO GET IN! HE WANTS TO GET IN! GET HIM!" I quickly walked away to avoid the MASSIVE amount of water flowing from this hydrant. I saw another hydrant down the street flowing too, but it wasn't nearly as impressive. This brings the total number of running hydrants up to 5, with three in one day!
number three
As I was getting this one the crowd across the street was watching me with a weary eye. As one of the guys crossed the street he said "you gonna snitch on us?" I said no, but should have replied not really, just gonna post it on my blog for the world to see. MOOHOOHAHAHA.
come on eileen
Hi I'm Ellen. This is my first post. This is my friend, she was named Eileen by a stranger at a bar because she leans! It took me awhile to get it but once I did I thought it was hysterical.
(editors note: Brooklyn Fix welcomes Ellen as a new contributor!)

subway art
Apparently underground they have no idea what the kids and fire hydrants are doing above ground. The city sponsors this art. Nice try, but better luck next time.
kids taking over the streets
It was a hot here today, but thankfully the humidity that is ever so present was nonexistent. This didn't seem to stop a TON of LITTLE neighborhood kids from commandeering the street and setting up the biggest pool and blow up slide I've ever seen. I thought these were kept for the ultra wealthy in large backyards. Guess not. The kids were waiting in line for this one!

an example from manhattan
Across the river we love OUR birds. We sell them in stores, and feed them good food, and give them homes to stay in. The only thing that they get in the city is no respect! As far as leaving leftovers goes, it seems to be a polite thing to do if you ask me.
a small river
I've never seen anything like this in the west. Anyone can open up any fire hydrant and let her rip! Its illegal, but who cares! BUT, get a special cap from the fire dept and you can have hours of water wasting fun, legally, FOR FREE!
pigeons are popular!
The local pet shop sells these lovely birds. Apparently people buy them as pets and keep them on their roofs. Jerry, the owner, says that he spends 30 mins a day with his birds. Who knew?
sun down
A rooftop view from williamsburg, and the first post to kick of brooklyn fix! Even though the photos are coming from my camera phone I wanted to give homage to the ever-so-quickly dying traditional photo. When one "fixes" an image this makes the print stable, and it can be brought from the dark room(mommy what was a dark room like?) and into the light. Some time, the right chemicals at the right temperature, and some drying and you've got a print! Like magic. Now snap, send and boom-bang it's on brooklyn fix! amazing.
